Mole and Benign Lesion Removal

Moles, seborrheic keratoses, brown spots, and skin tags are all skin conditions that are typically noncancerous and harmless. Despite this, many people find benign lesions to be unwelcome and unpleasant growths on their skin – especially if these conditions develop later in life. If this is the case, or if there is some suspicion that a skin lesion may be malignant, they are usually a good candidate for benign lesion removal.

Who Should Get a Benign Lesion Removed?

Benign skin lesions are usually harmless, but some men and women prefer to have them examined and removed for cosmetic and medical purposes.

Moles, for example, are frequently removed and sent to a pathologist to confirm that they are benign. If you have several moles, it’s important to regularly have a full body skin exam to determine whether or not any moles should be removed for medical reasons.

Moles, skin tags, brown spots, and seborrheic keratoses can all come in different shapes and sizes, creating the opportunity for them to be removed for both medical and cosmetic reasons. Your dermatologist will examine your skin, discuss any concerns that you have, and talk to you about whether or not benign lesion removal is right for you.

What to Expect from a Benign Lesion Removal?

When it comes to removing a benign lesion, the procedure could not be any easier. Thankfully, removing skin conditions like moles, skin tags, and other benign lesions is a quick and painless procedure.

First, Dr. Ip will numb the area to keep you comfortable and to ensure that you do not feel any pain throughout the process. The lesion will them be removed through excision, burning, or freezing.

All About Recovery Time and Results

It is usually not necessary for these areas to be closed with stitches, so Dr. Ip will take the time to talk about aftercare with you to try and help you heal as best as possible.

Recovery time can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. During this time period, your skin will heal and the wound from the procedure will close to reveal skin that is smoother and not marked by your benign growth.

Many patients love the results of their procedure, which leaves them with unblemished skin that is more similar to the rest of their skin tone and skin texture. Though some scarring may occur, they usually become lighter and smoother over time.

Why Dr. Ip Recommends Benign Lesion Removal

Anyone who has a benign lesion that is causing them physical discomfort or emotional distress may be a good candidate for benign lesion removal.

This procedure is quick and yields gorgeous results, though some insurance policies don’t cover all types of benign lesion removal.

If you are interested in having a benign lesion removed, and if your insurance covers the procedure or you can afford it as an out-of-pocket procedure, Dr. Ip will talk to you about whether or not you’re a good candidate for this procedure. In most cases, the removal can occur during that very same appointment!
