Exosomes

Vibrant Dermatology is thrilled to be introducing Exosome Therapy to its practice. What are exosomes, you ask? Exosomes are extracellular vesicles that are made by stem cells. Exosomes are signaling cells and send messages to change cell behavior. In addition to directly increasing stem cell abundance at the hair follicles with PRP and Kerafactor (insert hyperlink), we also have the ability to direct and enhance the messages that stem cells send by using exosomes.

Exosomes are currently used in a wide variety of medical advancements and most currently in follicle development. Using exosomes derived from follicular stem cells, physicians are able to help nurture and grow new follicles. Follicular exosomes allow the hair to remain in the growth cycle for a longer period of time which in turn allows for healthier and more dense hairs.

Vibrant Dermatology utilizes bone-marrow derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs). There are more than 63,000 peer-reviewed papers published on BM-MSCs that show that these stem cells yield a higher grade and safety profile of exosomes compared to others.

The Process

After a thorough evaluation and detailed conversation with Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip and her team, you will learn all about the options available to you to treat your hair loss. Depending on your goals, healthy history, and Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip’s recommendation, you may start topical medications, oral medications, or even procedures to help grow new hairs. Exosome therapy can be performed in conjunction with most procedures that Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip offers. She will advise you of the best treatment plan to achieve your hair growth goals.

There are no contraindications to exosome treatment. Patients are requested to avoid NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen ,Tylenol, Advil, Aleve) three days prior and four days after the procedure, unless your physician requires you to be on this medication. Not discontinuing the medication will not prevent the exosome treatment from growing new hairs. The overall treatment is overall painless after a brief ring block performed by Dr. Imahiyerobo-Ip or her staff to help limit any discomfort you experience. The treatment takes no more than one hour, and it can be done every three to six months.
